Artist Statement
Crafting has always been my way to escape. My creativity blossomed at an early age as I navigated traumatic events beyond my control. Leaning into that creativity helped me hold on to the pieces of innocence I was not ready to leave behind. Limited by my resources I grabbed anything I could find, within my environment, to create beings conjured up by my imagination to help me cope.
My imagination became my salvation, and the whimsy relics I created helped me feel comforted and protected. Unicorns, fairies, and other hybrid winged creatures made of tissue, Cotton balls, and paper, held together by Elmers’ glue were the only things keeping me together. They were fragile but felt like immovable forces to me.
I currently explore childhood nostalgia, family, memories, fantasy, and mental wellness through a range of creative outlets. I work across metals, fibers, painting, and sculpture focusing my practice on explorations of escapism in jewelry making and the creation of fantastical, dreamlike spaces, paying homage to specific toys, memories, and my loved ones. Are important to me and my healing journey, incorporating vibrant color, texture, and storytelling into my statement pieces to create dynamic, youthful designs that speak to my inner child.
